Mathilde Wantenaar wrote La canzone del piccolo uccellino (the song of the little bird) for piccolo and vibraphone on commission for the Benelux Flute Competition. This has existed since 1984, but only this year piccolo players are allowed to enter for the first time. This time, the competition is open to all amateur piccolo players living in the Benelux. Participants will play Wantenaar's new piece and a work of their choice in the final on Saturday 7 March at Factorium Tilburg. Before this begins, flutist Ilonka Kolthof will perform La canzone del piccolo uccellino in advance at 14:00.
